Camp Horizon has a long and proud history of providing a safe and fun residential summer camp experience for special needs individuals of almost all ages.  Originally started by the Lynden Jaycee Club in 1974, operatorship of the Camp was transferred to the Lynden Lions Club in 1978.  In the early years, Camp Horizon was held at various sites until the former Blaine Air Force Base facility became available in the mid 1980’s.  The availability of these extensive facilities was considered a good match for the increasing demand by special needs individuals to participate in a summer camp.  The Lions Clubs of District 19-H, which includes portions of Southern British Columbia and North-West Washington, formed the Lions Camp Horizon Foundation (a (501) c3, non-profit corporation) in 1986 to assume operatorship of Camp Horizon from the Lynden Lions Club.  Subsequently in 1988, the Foundation took over operatorship of portions of the former Air Force Base, now known as Bay Horizon Park, under a long-term lease arrangement with the Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department.

During four weeks each summer, Camp Horizon provides a quality, six day residential summer camp experience for over 200 special needs adults and youths.  During the balance of the year, the Camp facilities are available for rental by groups or families.  When Camp Horizon is not in session, the picnic and playground areas as well as an outdoor basketball court are available for public use.

We invite you to explore our site, learn more about the Foundation, Camp Horizon, 3rd party facility rental opportunities and how you can help us serve special needs individuals through contributions of funds, needed supplies or your volunteer time.
